To change your life;change your lifestyle

I come from a family with several obese relatives. Great people and I am Blessed to have them in my life, but I would have to be blind not to see the challanges they face everyday. Both physically and socially.Lets face it If you are obese your heart, lungs , and joints take a constant beating and you feel miserable. To top that off, people treat you like dirt or make you feel inferior or somtimes they are just down hateful to you.

Being a father of three, I didn't want to see my children have to deal with these problems on top of the already difficult adolscent social dealings. So I did what I could to keep them active. We started my Son in Soccer at age Four. He fell in love with the game and has surpassed me years ago athleticaly. My ten year old daughter also started soccer when she was four and while she liked playing, she wasn't as talented at the game as her brother. As it turned out she was gifted at dance and was ask to join a competitive dance team.

So you would think that being physically active my children would be slim and trim right? Wrong. They were healthy but a little thick around the middle if you know what I mean. I didn't care. I love them nomatter what but I know society and how harsh people can be.So I thought to myself, what can I do.

The answer was so simple it was sick. Our lifestyle had become hectic. Games, practices, lessons and so forth. We didn't take the time to eat correctly. It was a little scary to think what we were doing to our bodies eating fast food and processed frozen meals with a nutritional value of squat. So I found this book that taught us how to change the unhealthy way we were living. If we were going to beat genetics we had to start eating healthy. .Click Here For more info on eating healthy

It simply came down to a simple fact. If we wanted to change our lives we had to change our lifestyle.

Fighting Childhood Obesity:A Few Thoughts

Kids Eating Healthy

Fast food is making it very hard to teach a child how he or she
should eat healthy and fight obesity. The cheapest and easiest foods
are those that are normally the least healthy. If
you give your child the choice between healthy food
and junk food, you normally wont like the results.

it isn't possible to get a child to like
all healthy foods but there are some ways to get your
child to try and hopefully like at least a few of
them. This may be key to fighting obesity!!!

Be creative, sneak the healthy food in. such as making
muffins out of bananas or apples, or pizza with
spinach on it. Call fruits and vegetables by funny names. You
can refer to broccoli as "trees", making them
more fun to eat. Most kids prefer to eat foods that sound fun

Make the foods taste better. Ranch dressing is
great for broccoli, while peanut butter is a great
topping for celery. There are several combinations
for vegetables that can make them taste much
better.

- Dress the vegetables up.You can do this by making
funny designs on the plate, or setting them up to
look like people. Hopefully, doing this will help
your child fight obesity and develop a love of healthy foods for the rest of their lives.

Childhood Obesity

Obesity In Adolescents

Did you know that two of the main preventable causes of death in America are obesity and being overweight?

People usually confuse obesity with being overweight. Being overweight is gaining of a some extra pounds, but a person is considered to be obese when the total body weight is minimum ten percent more than the recommended weight for his/her body structure and height. Obesity can be caused by many complex reasons including biological, genetic, cultural and behavioral factors. Usually though, a person gets obese when he/she consumes more calories than the body burns.

Lifestyle and junk food can be blamed for more than three hundred thousand deaths per year and this problem is on the rise. Obesity is a chronic disease that is a serious health risk of an individual. Also, obesity is the easiest recognizable medical problem, but is very difficult to deal with.

Many adolescents want to tackle their obesity problem. Approaching their pediatrician will help. They will thoroughly evaluate the cause. The doctor can give a weight management program and can also suggest changes in eating habits.

If no physical disorder is to be blamed, the weight is reduced by limiting the calorie intake and increasing physical activity. If your child has emotional problems because of obesity or being overweight, an adolescent psychiatrist might also be of some help.
